by Baua Devi
Two peacocks face each other in a dance of courtship, their magnificent tail feathers spread in a full fan display of hundreds of eyes. Between them blooms a large lotus flower — the sacred symbol of purity growing from muddy waters. The entire composition is framed by a decorative border of stylized flowers and leaves in the Mithila tradition. In Mithila culture, the peacock pair is the most beloved symbol of love, beauty, and the joy of the monsoon season.
